We had yet another productive week here at OSSIC. While some of you out there might have been playing your way through E3 (we’re jealous), the OSSIC team was hunkering down on acoustic tests, prototype development, and other projects.
OSSIC is the proud owners of two amazing pieces of equipment. Both are ambisonic microphones which are designed to capture a full sphere of sound, including both above and below the listener. The one on the left (called a tetramic) is a first order ambisonic mic, while the Eigenmike on the right is typically used up to third order.
Kedar (who we introduced last week) has been the lucky fellow enlisted to begin field recordings with the microphones so that we can document the process of taking great recordings and ensuring proper playback through the OSSIC X.
YOUTUBE SUPPORTS AMBISONICS FOR 360 VIDEO
It’s worth noting for those creators out there that Youtube supports first order ambisonic playback with 360 videos. We’re obviously very excited about this. You can click here for more information.
OSSIC X PRODUCTION
Another busy week for the team, but things are still on track. Custom drivers have been thoroughly tested and most of the prototype parts have been delivered and are ready for assembly. We’ll be sharing major updates with you throughout the next week.
From E3 2016, OSSIC is excited to explore all the newest video game titles from the world’s best developers; but this year’s E3 also revealed the next console hardware generation with Playstation's Neo, and Xbox's Project Scorpio. We are excited to explore what these platforms can offer in terms of high-quality audio processing.
That’s it for this week. Enjoy the weekend!
